Naga Mulberry Table Runner · Blue · 40 × 190 cm

€54,00

A small textile artwork and a piece of cultural heritage. The handwoven table runner with its zigzag pattern isn't just eye-catching, it means something. Few people know this: it's Naga, the mythical river serpent.

Legend says a Naga prince once fell in love with a weaver, and to this day the motif carries the spirit of the river, and protection from harm, into every home it enters. It's one of the most beloved motifs found in Laos's weaving villages.

In 2023, UNESCO recognized this craft as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Maybe Naga will move in with you next ;)

This runner is made from local mulberry fiber, hand-processed just a few houses down from the loom. The fibers softened and prepared before they ever reach the weaver's hands. The whole family lives from this craft.
