Hello Rare Friend,

thank you for finding your way to us. Bienvenidos! You're probably wondering who's behind SoRarePieces :) Here's a little more about us.

It all started in 2017 with vintage. Back then, we shipped more than 850 pieces to over 20 countries, with five-star reviews right up to the last parcel. While browsing markets and shops, we kept meeting people who make things themselves. That's how the idea grew: to find, collect and bring you traditional, handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces from equally remarkable people – along with interesting insights and stories.

We're lucky enough to live in different places around the world, and frequent moves are part of our lives – sometimes driven by work, sometimes by something harder to explain. It's not always easy, of course. For some, it might be hard to imagine leaving home and living somewhere unfamiliar. But for us, it also means getting to know places and people in a way few others do. And that feeling of discovery is what we want to share with you. The feeling of owning a piece of a journey: a rare find from a corner of the world you might not know yet.

And here's something important: of course we all love shopping with the big brands. Fast, colourful, convenient. So do we. Buy one get one free? Absolutely, sign us up. But there's also that other side. Where do my things come from? Who made them? What meaning and value do they carry – in the broader sense?

The People Behind the Pieces

We know many of our makers personally. Some we're simply friends with, others we cross paths with here and there, and some pieces we find through people who live there. We buy directly from the makers, and that's how every order supports their work. For every piece, we tell you what we know: who made it, or how.

SoRarePieces was founded by Kathrin Anderseck (editor, Germany/Thailand) and developed together with Alicia Hermida García (designer, Spain). Elvira Götz (advisor, Jamaica) brings her expertise in cultural heritage and international collaboration.
