Our Echo Bangles stand for strength, connection and the rhythm of life. These elegant pieces, crafted from fish leather, are made by women in one of the poorest regions of Africa — creating income and new perspectives.

Fish leather may sound unusual at first, but it is one of the oldest and most durable types of leather in the world. And don’t worry: it’s completely odourless, with a beautifully distinct and natural structure.

The story behind it is just as remarkable: Northern Kenya has faced devastating droughts. Thanks to humanitarian support, communities around Lake Turkana — the world’s largest desert lake — were able to shift from traditional livestock herding to fishing. The fish skin, once discarded as waste, became the starting point for something new. Ira and James Ambani learned the craft, refined it and began producing high-quality leather goods from Nile perch skin.

Today, several years later, Ira and James employ around twenty people — mostly women — across two locations. At SoRarePieces, we are proud to partner with Ambani Fish Leather and to share their creations: jewellery, keyholders, wallets and more.
