Our wonderful Echo Bangles are meant to be symbols of strength and connection! These elegant, weighty bangles made from fish leather are crafted by women in one of the poorest regions of Africa. They create income and new perspectives for life.

Fish leather? Yes, it may sound unusual at first, but it is one of the oldest and most durable types of leather in the world. And don’t worry: it’s completely odourless and has a beautifully distinctive, natural structure.

The story behind it is just as remarkable: in recent years, Northern Kenya has been affected by devastating droughts. With the support of humanitarian projects, communities around Lake Turkana — the largest desert lake in the world — were able to shift from traditional livestock herding to fishing. The fish skin, once considered waste, became the starting point for something new.

Ira and James Ambani learned the craft, refined it and began producing high-quality leather goods from Nile perch skin. Today, several years later, Ira and James employ around twenty people across two locations — mostly women. At SoRarePieces, we are proud to work with Ambani Fish Leather and to share their special creations: jewellery, keyholders, wallets and more.
